PROJECTS

We have recently launched a project as part of our income-generation scheme
This is to help people come out of being unemployed and back on their feet again. These income-generating projects are aimed at empowering the unemployed, due to high unemployment rates in Kenya.
Alleviate established a new income-generating project as a way of helping people to become self-sufficient and lift themselves out of poverty. Many of the needy we come across are determined and keen on being self-employed; but do not have the means.
Our first project was to help set up a clothing business in Kisumu, Kenya. Our donation went towards buying stock which was only available in Nairobi, and setting up a small clothing shop for men’s clothing in Kisumu.
Our next project was the donating of two motorcycles for running a motorcycle taxi business. One was distributed in Nairobi, and the other in Busia, Western Kenya. The options for buying a motorcycle here are very limited, as one is often forced to purchased second-hand with no ‘history’. It is extremely difficult to get loans or credit from banks, to buy a bike. If you wish to rent a bike, you still require funds to put towards a contract. One also earns more income from owning their bike instead of renting.
Alleviate managed to raise sufficient funds in order to purchase two brand new bikes and all safety equipment required for a motorcycle taxi business in Kenya. Both businesses are located in good areas, and their main customers are locals who are going from one place to another, or moving their goods from one place to another.
Keep your eyes posted for our next income-generating project in Kenya which we hope to share with you very soon.

Eid-ul- Adha is marked by the sharing of meat, which is a major part of this celebration, for all Muslims who are able to do so. Alleviate distributes meat in areas where many of the poor are unable to afford meat. Alleviate helps you to have your (udhiya / sacrifice) done on your behalf where the need is greatest. The udhiya is given as a mark of Prophet Abraham’s sacrifice of an animal in submission to Allah (God).
In addition to meat, Alleviate also distributes food parcels to many different homes in the slum to enable them to really enjoy their meal with their family. This contains enough foodstuffs to feed the average family of six. This usually includes rice, cooking oil, groceries and sweet treats! We always give the elderly priority when we share out the food parcels. As sometimes the elderly can be forgotten, and in this area in particular; many of the elderly look after their orphaned grandchildren without support.

People donate towards the contribution of food (Iftar) for the breaking of the fast in Ramadan by the poor. This is to make sure that they can actually have something to break their fast with during Ramadan. This takes place every day for the month Ramadan in Kibera slum in Kenya. This is a part of town where many people struggle to feed themselves even one simple meal a day.
Many people living in Kibera live in shacks made of mud, stones and wooden planks. People in Kibera have no access to clean water, electricity, or sewage. Life here is not easy and many people in Kibera struggle to put food on the table for their families.

Alleviate is currently fundraising to build a Secondary School for girls which is in a really bad state at the moment. This is a boarding school in Kenya that is currently struggling without regular running water, leaking roofs, and cramped facilities. We are hoping to build a spacious and warm school where the girls can thrive to the best of their ability.

Every year Alleviate has a clothing collection scheme. We collect clean clothing that is in good condition, seeking a new home! This clothing has been given out in the Kibera slum of Nairobi. Some of the children who received these clothes normally only have their school uniform and one other item of clothing. So this was a lovely surprise which was well received.

During one of our trips to the Kibera slum it was brought to our attention that there was an elderly Granny who's home was on the verge of collapsing. The house was made of sticks and mud and there was no furniture inside. Your kind donations helped to rebuild her home and put a smile on her face.

July 2016 brought to our attention the plight of a community in North Eastern Kenya near to the Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps. This community was in desparate need of foodstuffs, and due to the dry semi-arid region there, growing crops and raising livestock is a difficulty. Alleviate was able to contribute towards providing basic meals provision to 200+families in the region.

Alleviate has a small number of orphans that you help to support. These orphans have been in situations where their own families are already living on the breadline. Many of these orphans come from homes where there are several mouths to feed, and making ends meet is a real struggle. Many of these orphans do not go to school because their families cannot afford the fees, uniform, stationery etc. They end up leaving school and eventually often end up in trouble. Your support has helped to make sure that these orphans are able to stay in school.
School Built
IN TANZANIA

Alleviate has helped towards the construction of a small classroom in a village outside Dodoma, Tanzania. We have helped to complete the entire structure, through the buying of raw materials, and also the roofing, window frames and glass panes.
We look forward to helping in the building of the school masters accomodation, furnishing and school supplies. Watch this space !!
